Thanks Avid, I Forgot About That

I remember growing panic as I waved and gestured through the glass at voice talent in the booth, hitting the talkback and asking “can you hear me now?” for what must have been half an hour.

We were the first ones in the studio that morning. There was nobody there to ask for help. Just out of college, I was eager to impress (is this starting to read like a Harlequin novel?) and dumbfounded as to why he couldn’t hear me.

Finally, a senior engineer – with decades more experience than I had at the time – walked in. I explained the crisis as calmly as possible, he stood there and scanned the board… then calmly leaned forward and turned on the phantom power.
